Man Throws Two Children From Three-Storey Building in Aba, Both Survive

A man believed to be about 40 years old allegedly threw his two children from the third floor of a building in the Umuobe community near Aba Main Town, Abia State, before jumping from the same height in an incident that occurred on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

According to Daily Post, eyewitnesses told Magic FM Aba that the man also attempted to throw his wife from the building. He was later found unconscious but breathing outside his residence with a head injury. Officers of the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene at about 6:22 p.m., secured the area and began an investigation.

The two children were rushed to hospital, with Magic FM Aba later confirming that both survived the fall, although their conditions were not immediately disclosed. The man reportedly resisted arrest before being taken into police custody at about 6:32 p.m. and transported to a different hospital from where the children were receiving treatment.

Confirming the incident, Abia State Police Command spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka said investigations were ongoing. While some residents speculated that the incident may have been linked to drug use or a mental health crisis, police said the cause has not been established.
