According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria on Friday, July 31, 2026, the Niger State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man accused of operating an illegal syndicate that produced counterfeit National Identity Number (NIN) cards and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), allegedly generating more than ₦3 million from the operation.
Police Commissioner Adamu Abdullahi Elleman identified the suspect as Mohammed Aliyu Buba of Angwan Sarki, Munya Local Government Area. He said the suspect was arrested on July 28 after intelligence linked him to the forgery network.
According to the police, officers from the Tactical Support Team raided the suspect’s residence, recovering 105 counterfeit NIN cards and 189 forged PVCs.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to producing fake identity documents for more than 1,000 people, charging ₦2,000 for each counterfeit NIN card and ₦1,000 for each forged PVC.
Elleman said the suspect remains in custody and will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded. He warned the public against producing or obtaining forged government-issued identity documents, stressing that such offences are punishable under the law, and urged residents to continue providing information to help security agencies combat forgery and identity-related crimes.
