Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political crisis stemmed from what he described as a failure to maintain the support of those who contributed to his emergence.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, August 2, 2026, Wike stressed the importance of political loyalty, alliances and established support structures in sustaining leadership after an election.
According to the former Rivers State governor, politics is built on relationships, and leaders should not distance themselves from those who supported their rise to power.
“If you make the mistake which he made, by saying that yes I can do it alone, those who gave me support I don’t care, I don’t need them, those who didn’t want you will come in,” Wike said.
He argued that once a leader abandons loyal allies, political opponents who never supported them could gain influence and create instability. Wike added that political success is rarely achieved alone and urged leaders to preserve strong relationships with trusted supporters to ensure stability in government.
