The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned prospective corps members that they will not be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The directive comes as the scheme prepares to mobilise a new batch of prospective corps members while strengthening verification procedures and improving safety measures for those travelling to orientation camps. In a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC stated that NERD clearance is now mandatory for all prospective corps members and advised them to complete the process early to avoid delays.
The scheme said: “This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation.”
Reinforcing the requirement, the NYSC added: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!” Although the organisation did not provide further details on the clearance process, the notice indicates a stricter verification system ahead of the next orientation exercise.
The latest advisory follows the NYSC’s announcement of the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, with institutions and eligible graduates urged to complete necessary documentation before the orientation programme.
The scheme also recently issued safety guidelines advising prospective corps members against travelling at night while heading to orientation camps. The NYSC encouraged travellers to break long journeys where necessary and seek accommodation in safe locations or designated military and security formations where available, rather than continue travelling after dark.
The renewed measures are part of efforts by the scheme to improve the integrity of its mobilisation process and protect prospective corps members amid rising security concerns on Nigerian highways. Prospective corps members are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, before reporting for orientation camp.
