Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has revealed why he turned down the chance to wear Galatasaray’s number nine jersey, choosing to keep his number 45 shirt for the upcoming season.
The Nigerian striker, who completed a permanent move to the Turkish champions after a successful loan spell, has become one of Galatasaray’s standout players due to his consistent performances and goals.

Many fans expected Osimhen to switch to the club’s famous number nine shirt, which has been worn by several top strikers, including Mauro Icardi.
However, the 26-year-old decided to continue wearing number 45, the shirt he has used since arriving at the club.
Speaking about his decision, Osimhen said the number 45 has brought him luck during his time at Galatasaray, and he sees no reason to change it.
According to Turkish sports outlet Sabah Spor, Osimhen was quoted as saying, “I believe you will sell more shirts, but I think you will understand my perspective. The number 45 has been lucky for me at Galatasaray.”
He added that number 45 has been special to him since joining the club and wants to continue wearing it.
“I want to continue with the same number,” Victor Osimhen added.
Since making his move from Napoli permanent, Osimhen has remained a key player for Galatasaray, winning over supporters with his goals and energetic displays.
The Super Eagles star recently scored his first goal of pre-season in Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Rennes in Istanbul as the team continues preparing for the new campaign.
Osimhen will now hope to build on his strong performances and help Galatasaray defend their domestic title while challenging for more trophies this season.
