Aisha Yesufu has urged opposition political parties to unite behind Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement posted on her verified X account on Wednesday, Yesufu said rallying behind Obi would not require opposition parties to dissolve or abandon their individual platforms and principles.
She argued that the 2027 election would be decided by effective coordination rather than the size of a party’s support base, describing Obi as “the candidate with the strongest record on the ballot.”
Yesufu also noted that President Bola Tinubu secured victory in the 2023 presidential election with 36 percent of the vote, while the opposition collectively received the remaining votes. She said the opposition’s challenge has been disunity rather than a lack of electoral strength.
“Peter Obi is not the candidate of one camp. Unifying under him is not surrender. It is strategy,” she wrote, adding that a coordination channel had been created to help opposition organisers, fundraisers and strategists work together while remaining in their respective parties.
