Barrister Isyaku Danjuma has recounted his experience after being kidnapped by bandits and held captive for 84 days near Dan Sadau town in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Speaking in an interview with TVC News, Danjuma revealed that his captors frequently relied on the telecommunications network in Dan Sadau to communicate with the families of kidnapping victims during ransom negotiations.
He said the bandits also admitted they were unable to carry out attacks on the town despite operating in nearby areas.
According to Danjuma, the kidnappers told him that residents of Dan Sadau had put in place strong security measures and were sufficiently armed to defend themselves against attacks.
He explained that the bandits acknowledged that entering the community to launch an attack would be difficult because of the level of preparedness among residents and the resistance they would likely encounter.
Danjuma said the criminals openly confessed that the town’s security readiness had discouraged them from targeting the area, even while they continued to operate in surrounding locations.
The lawyer’s account highlights the security challenges facing parts of Zamfara State, where armed groups have been responsible for a series of kidnappings and attacks in recent years.
His remarks suggest that community preparedness and local security measures may have played a role in deterring attacks on Dan Sadau despite the presence of bandits in nearby areas.
