I Do Not Want To Follow A Man Who Has A Criminal Record & Whom The Public Cannot Scrutinize-Atuejide

Eunice Atuejide, former presidential candidate of the National Interest Party and a member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi over allegations made against him by former Labour Party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, June 11, 2026, Atuejide stressed the need for accountability and transparency in public leadership, saying political figures must be open to scrutiny to maintain public trust.

She said many Nigerians continue to support Obi because they believe he is willing to be subjected to public examination and criticism.

“I do not want to follow a man who has a criminal record and whom the public cannot scrutinize,” Atuejide said, while urging Okonkwo to present any evidence he claims to have against Obi through appropriate legal and public channels.

According to her, the ongoing legal dispute offers an opportunity for the allegations to be properly examined through due process. She argued that transparency strengthens confidence in those seeking public office.

Atuejide said her support for Obi is based on what she described as his reputation for accountability, prudent management of resources and commitment to public service.

She added that if credible evidence exists to challenge that perception, it should be publicly presented and subjected to legal scrutiny rather than speculation.

Atuejide maintained that democratic societies thrive when citizens have access to accurate information about political leaders and expressed confidence that the truth would ultimately be determined through evidence and lawful processes rather than public rhetoric.
