I Brought My Prison Bag With Me Today and Told the Judge When They Are Ready, I’m Outside — Sowore

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Omoyele Sowore, has stated that he was fully prepared to be remanded in prison following a Federal High Court order sending him to the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja amid his legal dispute with the Department of State Services (DSS).

The court’s decision came during proceedings in Sowore’s case against the DSS over remarks in which he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.” During the hearing, the presiding judge declined Sowore’s application requesting the judge’s recusal from the case.

Speaking during an interview with TV Platinum on Monday, 22 June 2026, after the court session, Sowore said he had anticipated the possibility of imprisonment and came prepared.

“I’m prepared. I brought my prison bag with me today and I told the judge, who said he can’t recuse himself, that when they are ready, I’m outside,” he said.

Sowore explained that bringing the prison bag reflected his expectation that the court could order his detention, adding that he remained ready to face the consequences of the legal battle and would not be intimidated by the proceedings.
