I Am Waiting for the Prison Warders, I Have Had My Bag Packed This Morning, Don’t Cry for Me — Sowore

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has said Nigerians should not grieve for him as he prepared to be remanded at Kuje Prison, stating that he anticipated the development and had made preparations ahead of time.

Speaking during an interview with Symfoni TV, Sowore said he had packed his bag and travelled across the country, including a visit to his village, because he expected the situation to unfold.

“I am waiting for the prison warders. I have had my bag packed this morning. I travelled around the country over the last few days, including to my village. Because I knew this would happen, everything you are seeing here has been planned over time,” he said.

Sowore alleged that previous reports had indicated that the decision had already been made, adding, “Do not cry for me. Cry instead for the country.”

Addressing the change in his legal representation, Sowore claimed his former lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, withdrew from the case after being allegedly humiliated by the judge and asked to kneel in court.

He expressed confidence in his new legal team, describing them as experienced and capable of effectively handling his defence.
