Danfulani Who Captured General Rabe Was Having Discussions, They Said He Was a Nice Person—Kurfi

Dr. Bashir Kurfi, Convener of the Katsina Community Security Initiative, has emphasized the role of community engagement in tackling banditry, arguing that security efforts should extend beyond military operations.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on June 24, 2026, Kurfi said individuals with influence and credibility within affected communities can play a significant role in reducing violence and supporting peace-building efforts.

Citing a specific example, Kurfi referred to Muhammadu Danfulani, who reportedly captured notorious bandit leader General Rabe. According to him, Danfulani had maintained discussions with local actors and was viewed as someone with whom communities could communicate effectively.

“Even the case of Muhammadu Danfulani who captured General Rabe. He was having discussions. They said he was a nice person, they can be able to communicate with him. That he will help them stop some of the bandits when they come,” Kurfi said.

He argued that trusted community figures can sometimes serve as intermediaries in efforts to prevent attacks and de-escalate tensions.

Kurfi maintained that long-term solutions to insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West require stronger collaboration with local communities, whose knowledge and relationships can support intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, and broader security initiatives.
