I Can Tell You, Every Week, You’ll Have Bus Filled With Bandits Going To Ilesha Mining Centre—Kurfi

Dr. Bashir Kurfi, Convener of the Katsina Community Security Initiative, has expressed concern over the alleged movement of armed bandits across different parts of Nigeria, warning that the growing mobility of criminal groups poses a significant security challenge.

Speaking on Trust TV on June 24, 2026, Kurfi argued that insecurity should not be viewed as a regional issue, noting that criminal networks now operate across multiple states and regions. He made the remarks while discussing the spread of insecurity and incidents such as the recent school kidnapping in Oyo State.

Kurfi alleged that suspected bandits frequently travel from communities in the North-West to other parts of the country, including mining areas.

“I can tell you, every week, you’ll have a bus filled with bandits going to Ilesha Mining Centre,” he said, calling for greater scrutiny of such movements by security agencies.

According to Kurfi, the alleged movement of suspected criminals to mining locations highlights the need for stronger intelligence gathering, enhanced surveillance, and closer monitoring of major transportation routes. He also urged authorities to pay greater attention to illegal mining activities, which he suggested could serve as funding sources or meeting points for criminal groups.

The security advocate further called for improved cooperation among federal and state security agencies, as well as stronger collaboration with local communities to enhance intelligence sharing and prevent criminal activities.
