If Peter Obi Give You Figure In Interview Go And Fact-Check; You’re Going To Find It To Be Lie—Ologun

Ayodeji Ologun, General Executive Director of the Centre for Responsive Governance, has criticized former presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of frequently presenting inaccurate statistics during public appearances.

According to a Daily Post report published on June 23, 2026, Ologun said his concerns about Obi are rooted in issues of trust and credibility. He alleged that many of the figures cited by the former Anambra State governor during interviews do not stand up to independent verification.

Ologun argued that public figures have a responsibility to provide accurate information and warned that unverified statistics can distort public understanding of important national issues. He urged Nigerians to critically examine claims made by political leaders rather than accepting them at face value.

Speaking on his position, Ologun said: “One of the reasons I don’t love Peter Obi and I will never support him is the fact that he misrepresents facts a lot. If Peter Obi gives you a figure in an interview, go and fact-check it; you are going to find it to be a lie most probably. Eighty per cent of the time, the figures he gives out are always false.”

The comments have added to ongoing debates about political communication, accountability, and the importance of fact-checking claims made by public officials and political figures.
