Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared insights into his nearly five-decade-long marriage, saying frequent disagreements have never prevented him and his wife from resolving their differences.
Speaking in an interview reported by TVC, Charly Boy compared their relationship to the cartoon duo Tom and Jerry.
“My wife and I are like Tom and Jerry, we quarrel all the time but we always resolve it,” he said.
The media personality attributed the longevity of their marriage to a commitment to working through challenges rather than allowing conflicts to damage the relationship. He stressed that marriage is not a fairytale and requires effort, understanding, compromise, and effective management.
According to Charly Boy, “all marriages are management,” noting that couples must learn to navigate difficult moments together.
He also acknowledged that spending decades with one partner can sometimes feel repetitive, humorously likening it to eating the same soup every day. However, he emphasized that he does not support infidelity, maintaining that commitment and acceptance are essential for sustaining a long-term marriage.
Charly Boy added that conflict itself is not the main threat to marriage, but the inability of couples to resolve disagreements peacefully.
