If I Work For Government And Earn ₦70,000, Unless I’m lazy, I’ll Do Something On The Side-Onanuga

According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, defended the economic policies of the Tinubu administration while responding to concerns over the rising cost of living and public dissatisfaction.

Speaking during an interview, Onanuga argued that many Nigerians are finding ways to cope with present economic realities. He maintained that the government has introduced policies aimed at improving living standards, including access to student loans, credit facilities and support for businesses.

While addressing the issue of income and the impact of inflation, the presidential aide suggested that workers should explore additional sources of earnings instead of relying solely on their salaries. According to him, “If I’m working for the government and earning ₦70,000, unless I’m lazy, I’ll go and do something on the side.”

Onanuga also pointed to improvements in state finances, infrastructure development and economic indicators as signs that the country is making progress despite existing challenges. He acknowledged that the reforms introduced by the administration have created difficulties for some citizens but insisted that the long-term benefits would outweigh the temporary pains.

He added that the government remains committed to implementing policies designed to strengthen the economy and ease the burden on Nigerians.
