Senator Ali Ndume has said his continued membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is largely due to his relationship with President Bola Tinubu, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Vice President’s wife.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on June 26, 2026, the Borno South senator disclosed that he had, at various times, considered leaving the ruling party because of disagreements over its internal affairs.
“If it were not for Tinubu, my governor, the Vice President, and his wife, I probably would not be in the APC by now,” Ndume said.
Although he did not specify the issues that prompted him to consider leaving the party, Ndume suggested he has been dissatisfied with some developments within the APC.
The senator, who is known for publicly expressing views that sometimes differ from those of the ruling party, said constructive criticism is necessary to strengthen governance and promote accountability. He added that his respect for Tinubu, Zulum, Shettima and the Vice President’s wife has been a key factor in his decision to remain in the APC despite his concerns.
