Pastor Roman Samson, founder and General Overseer of Goodness of Jesus Ministry, has denied intending to kill 13-year-old Nancy Peter, who allegedly died after he beat her over claims that she stole her mother’s money.
According to Vanguard News on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Samson said Nancy’s mother, Agnes Peter, brought the teenager to his residence, alleging she had stolen N30,000 and repeatedly engaged in misconduct. He claimed Agnes asked him to flog the girl, adding that she had already beaten her herself.
“I feel very sad. I didn’t want to kill her. It was her mum who insisted that I must beat her. She was like a daughter to me,” Samson said.
The pastor said he used a horsewhip and administered about 13 to 15 strokes before noticing Nancy had become weak. He said he immediately took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Cross River State Police Command spokesperson ASP Eitokpah Sunday confirmed that both Samson and Agnes Peter are in police custody. He said a thorough investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding Nancy’s death and ensure justice is served.
