Apostle Chigbata Emordi has recounted the death of a young man in the recent multi-storey building collapse at the Alakija area of Lagos State, describing the victim as the only child of his parents.
According to a TVC News report on Saturday, June 27, the cleric spoke at the disaster scene as emergency responders searched through the rubble. He said the victim had entered the commercial complex moments before the collapse to place a bet at a 9jaBet outlet.
Shortly after he went inside, the building collapsed, trapping him along with shoppers and business operators beneath the debris.
“One boy who is the only son of the parent just entered there to go and play 9jaBet. He was brought out dead. The mom nearly ran mad,” Emordi said.
The collapse triggered a large-scale rescue operation involving the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the fire service, and security personnel. Rescue teams used heavy-duty excavators to search for survivors and recover victims, while grieving relatives and residents gathered at the site as the Alakija community mourned the tragedy.
