When I Told Them That Makinde Took ₦50 Billion From the President, They Denied It – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of giving inconsistent accounts of Federal Government funds released for relief following the January 2024 Ibadan explosion.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Fayose alleged that President Bola Tinubu approved a ₦50 billion support package for the Oyo State Government to rebuild affected communities and assist victims. He claimed the state initially denied receiving the funds before later acknowledging receipt of ₦30 billion.

“When I told them that Makinde took ₦50 billion from the president, they denied it. Eventually they owned up to ₦30 billion. When you follow my trend you will see that what I say always comes to pass,” Fayose said.

The Oyo State Government has rejected the allegation. Governor Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, and the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the state received only ₦30 billion from the Federal Government and that no additional funds were released.

They added that the money is being held in a dedicated infrastructure support account with FirstBank and is being managed for post-disaster recovery projects in Ibadan.
