African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West Zonal Secretary, Hon. Abdulrahman Owokoniran, has expressed confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying Nigerians will ultimately determine the outcome through their votes.
In an interview with Independent Nigeria, Owokoniran said the ADC remains organised and prepared for the next general election despite the departure of prominent political figures, including Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Babachir Lawal, as well as lawmakers who followed Obi to other political platforms.
Responding to concerns that the defections could weaken the party’s electoral chances, Owokoniran said his optimism is rooted in the political awareness and independent judgment of Nigerian voters rather than the influence of individual politicians.
“My confidence is driven from the fact that people are not stupid. Nigerians know what they want. Nigerians can make up their minds. And whichever way they make up their minds will determine who the winner will be,” he said.
He added that the ADC would remain focused on engaging voters, expressing confidence that Nigerians would carefully assess their options and make informed choices in the 2027 elections.
