Wike Faces Backlash Over Remarks on Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Ambition

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike over remarks suggesting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would not become Nigeria’s president in the 2027 general election.

According to Vanguard on Monday, Eze said Wike’s reported claim that he possesses the political structure to frustrate the ADC candidate’s presidential ambition was undemocratic and implied that one individual could determine an election’s outcome.

He argued that only Nigerian voters have the constitutional authority to decide who becomes president, questioning whether the political structure referenced by Wike was based on public support or sustained through intimidation and the misuse of state institutions.

Eze said worsening economic hardship, insecurity, rising living costs and declining public confidence in government had reshaped the political outlook of many Nigerians, particularly young voters.

He urged public officials to focus on addressing national challenges rather than making premature political declarations, expressing confidence that the ADC has emerged as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.

Eze added that the next presidential election would be decided by Nigerians based on leadership qualities, competence and vision, not by the influence of any individual politician.
