The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Ismail Tunji Ibiyeye, for the alleged m8rder of a 42-year-old woman, Olaitan Amere.
The mother of three and trader, Mrs. Olaitan Amere, was hacked to d3ath inside her home in Ajegunle, Ido-Ekiti.
According to a relative, Mr. Dare Akinola, there had been an earlier attempt to set her residence ablaze a day before the fatal attack.
A passerby reportedly noticed flames coming from a window and raised the alarm, preventing the fire from spreading.
However, at about 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, the attackers allegedly returned and hacked Mrs. Amere with machetes, inflicting multiple injuries to her head, face, legs, and other parts of her body.
Family sources further alleged that after k!lling her, the assailants attempted to burn her body by covering it with clothes and other household items before leaving a container of petrol at the scene.
Her elder sister, Funmilola Adewumi, said the family became worried after they could no longer reach her by phone.
They traced her phone to her residence, where they found her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
She also claimed that the deceased had received threats before the tragic incident.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) office in Ado-Ekiti.
Ibiyemi, who was reportedly in a relationship with the deceased, is said to be an environmental staff member at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, and a native of Ofa, Kwara State.
The suspect has reportedly made statements to investigators.
However, police investigations are still ongoing, and no court has determined his guilt.
The late Mrs. Olaitan Amere was known for caring for her elderly, physically challenged mother following her separation from her husband.
The police say investigations into the case are continuing.
