Obi: “Everybody Knows He Left N75bn in Anambra, No Gov Did That, Except Yar’Adua Who Left N5bn” — Tanko

Yunusa Tanko, an ally of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has defended Obi’s leadership record, saying his performance in office demonstrates his capacity to lead Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Tanko said Obi left about N75 billion in Anambra State’s accounts at the end of his tenure, claiming no other governor had achieved the same except the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who he said left N5 billion after serving as governor of Katsina State.

“Everybody knows he left 75 billion naira in the coffers of the government account. There’s no governor that did that, except Musa Yar’Adua, who left 5 billion,” Tanko said.

Tanko also said Obi publicly accounted for the state’s finances, describing the move as evidence of transparency and accountability.

He compared the public expectations that greeted former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration with the confidence some Nigerians now place in Obi, arguing that Obi’s record sets him apart. Tanko also called for national unity, saying the country should move beyond historical divisions, including those stemming from the Nigerian Civil War.
