Engineer Yusuf Da’awa has said it was widely known that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was not enthusiastic about serving as Peter Obi’s running mate on the proposed NDC presidential ticket.
Speaking during an interview on the PAP Show, Da’awa said Kwankwaso set aside his personal ambition in what he described as a decision made in Nigeria’s national interest. He noted that after contesting the presidency, including as the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s candidate in the 2023 election, Kwankwaso chose to support Obi’s bid, believing it was time for a president from southern Nigeria.
Da’awa argued that an Obi-Kwankwaso partnership could strengthen national unity by combining the experience, governance records, and policy visions of both politicians.
He also criticized the current administration, saying Nigeria requires more focused leadership. Da’awa further pointed to the absence of an Igbo president since the country’s return to democratic rule, arguing that supporting Obi would promote fairness and broader national representation.
“Everyone knew Kwankwaso wasn’t happy about being Obi’s vice president. But because he cares about Nigeria, he said, ‘I’ll set aside my ambition, I’ll support Obi, let him be president,’” Da’awa said.
