President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the construction of the fourth Legacy Project under his Renewed Hope Agenda, approving the immediate release of N111 billion for the commencement of the 700-kilometre Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway.
Represented by APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, at the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Tinubu described the project as a major economic and social corridor designed to improve connectivity, road safety, security, and economic activities across the North-Central and North-East.
The President said the superhighway would link communities, markets, and opportunities, adding that work had already begun on the Gombe–Maiduguri section while the remaining phases would be awarded soon. He also provided updates on the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, saying construction was progressing steadily.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi announced that the N111 billion approved for the contractor would enable immediate mobilisation to the site. He said the 700km project would reduce travel time, boost trade, strengthen national integration, and connect with other major highways to form a nationwide transport network.
Umahi added that the Federal Government would directly finance 30 percent of the project, with the remaining 70 percent sourced through foreign financing arrangements.
