Political activist Idris Zekeri has expressed admiration for former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, saying discussions about the former labour leader often evoke strong emotions.
Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Zekeri reflected on Oshiomhole’s political journey and the expectations many Edo residents had during his tenure as governor. He said Oshiomhole was widely regarded as a symbol of progressive leadership and attracted support across political divides because many believed he represented the interests of ordinary Nigerians.
“I get very emotional whenever I talk about Comrade Adams Oshiomhole,” Zekeri said, attributing his feelings to the respect he had for Oshiomhole’s contributions to Nigeria’s labour movement and his emergence as governor of Edo State.
Zekeri urged public office holders to uphold the trust placed in them through good governance and accountability, arguing that leaders are remembered not only for their achievements but also for how they meet public expectations.
He also called on Nigerians to assess political leaders based on their records and the impact of their policies, stressing that democratic accountability and people-centred leadership are essential for national stability and prosperity.
