Adams Oshiomhole: Peter Obi Campaigned for Him in Edo State in 2012, Zekeri Reveals

Political activist Idris Zekeri has recalled the past political relationship between Peter Obi and former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, saying Obi campaigned for Oshiomhole during the 2012 Edo governorship election.

Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Zekeri said Nigerian politics has historically featured cooperation across party lines when leaders believed it served the public interest. He argued that such alliances should not be overlooked because of current political differences.

“Peter Obi came to campaign for him in Edo State in 2012,” Zekeri said, adding that Obi also commissioned the Akpakpava Road project during the visit, where Oshiomhole publicly praised his performance as governor of Anambra State.

Zekeri said the episode remains an important part of Nigeria’s political history and reflects a willingness by leaders to prioritize governance and development over partisan interests.

He urged politicians to focus on policies that address economic hardship, insecurity, and unemployment rather than divisive rhetoric, adding that Nigerians should assess leaders based on their records, commitment to public service, and ability to unite the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
