The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly reinstated six serving senators as its 2027 National Assembly candidates after overturning the results of earlier senatorial primaries in nine states, The Punch reported.
The changes affect Kogi, Abia, Benue, Taraba, Ondo, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna and Ebonyi states. The newspaper said the APC National Working Committee acted on recommendations from its Primary Election Appeal Committee, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warned it would reject candidates whose names do not match monitored primary results.
According to party sources, the reversals followed lobbying by governors, traditional rulers and the Presidency to ease tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A senior APC official, who spoke anonymously, said President Bola Tinubu and the party leadership also intervened in Ondo State to resolve a dispute between Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo over legislative tickets.
“The party has resolved that Aiyedatiwa is not going to run for a second term… Tunji-Ojo doesn’t need state lawmakers. So, they called the two parties together and settled it along that line,” the source said.
