Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Atiku Campaign Organisation, has criticised the multi-billion naira defamation suit filed by his former principal, Peter Obi, describing it as frivolous.
Speaking in an interview aired on the official Channels Television YouTube channel on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Okonkwo said, “You’re running to a frivolous defamation suit against yourself, not me. Who is now the betrayer? Assuming, without considering, I even did something wrong, so that is how he would have treated me.”
Okonkwo argued that the lawsuit was an attempt to silence his public commentary, insisting that political analysts have a constitutional right to scrutinise political processes without intimidation.
He said his alliance with Obi during the 2023 presidential election was a temporary political collaboration and expressed regret that their relationship had deteriorated into a legal dispute.
Okonkwo maintained that his political career is driven by personal conviction and called on political leaders to focus on nation-building rather than pursuing critics through the courts. He expressed confidence that the judicial process would fairly resolve the matter and reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out on political issues.
