Ex-INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu Presents Letters of Credence to Qatar Amir to Deepen Bilateral Ties

Mahmood Yakubu, Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar, has presented his Letters of Credence to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during a diplomatic ceremony in Doha.

According to the Daily Post on Friday, July 3, 2026, Yakubu said the warm reception at the Amiri Diwan reflected the strong bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Qatar.

The presentation was confirmed in a statement by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who said the ceremony accorded full diplomatic honours to the Nigerian delegation. The proceedings included an inspection of the Guard of Honour by Yakubu, accompanied by senior officials from the Nigerian Embassy.

During a private meeting with the Amir, Yakubu conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s greetings and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening longstanding ties with Qatar. He also expressed condolences over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City and called for deeper cooperation in trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.
