‘I Will Remarry if My Husband Continues to Abandon Me’ — Estranged Wife

A mother of one, Emmanuel Chinenyenwa, says she will consider remarrying if her husband, Emmanuel Ajuruchukwu, continues to abandon her and their son after losing contact with the family following his move to Côte d’Ivoire.

In an interview with Punch, Chinenyenwa said the couple married traditionally in May 2023 before her husband travelled to Abidjan in March 2024 in search of better opportunities. She said he initially maintained regular contact and sent ₦50,000 monthly for their upkeep but stopped communicating and providing financial support by February 2025.

Chinenyenwa said she has since struggled to care for their son, describing failed attempts to start a poultry and salon business while relying on relatives and neighbours for support. She also expressed concern over conflicting accounts from her husband’s family, with some claiming they remain in contact with him while others previously said they could not reach him.

“I will not kill myself,” she said when asked if she would remarry. “I have been a faithful and supportive wife even though I am still a young woman.”

She appealed for financial assistance to secure accommodation, start a business and rebuild her life while continuing to seek information about her husband’s whereabouts.
