Kidnappers: They Were Very Tired and They Slept Off, That Was How We Ran to the Police – Destiny

A kidnapping victim in Edo State, Braimah Destiny, says he and 10 other captives escaped after their abductors reportedly fell asleep following an overnight trek through the forest.

According to Punch on Friday, July 3, 2026, the victims were abducted while working on their farms in Estako West Local Government Area. Speaking at the Edo State Police Command headquarters, Destiny said he was returning home from his farm when six masked men armed with guns and cutlasses seized him and led him into the bush, where he discovered 10 other abductees.

He said the captives were forced to walk throughout the night without rest and heard what they believed to be gunfire from security operatives during the journey.

“They made us walk throughout the night. We got to a place and they told us to hide. They were very tired and they slept off. That was how we ran to the police. The kidnappers beat us and maltreated us,” Destiny said.

The victims escaped while their captors were asleep and later reached police officers, bringing their ordeal to an end.
