Dickson Ireogbu, a member of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), has described the 2023 presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed as one of Nigeria’s strongest since the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
Speaking on Arise TV on Friday, July 3, 2026, Ireogbu said Obi remains a political figure capable of promoting national unity through inclusive leadership.
“Yes, Peter Obi’s campaign can win on national unity. Since 1999, I have maintained that the Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed ticket is about the best ticket Nigeria has had,” he said.
Ireogbu argued that the pair’s track records demonstrate commitment to the country and position them to foster national cohesion. He added that Obi’s leadership style and public conduct reflect values that could help bridge Nigeria’s divisions.
The NDC member also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that its decision to field a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the 2023 election did not reflect Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity.
