Morocco became the first team to reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating co-hosts Canada 3-0 in their Round of 16 clash on Saturday.
According to a Daily Post report, Canada impressed in the first half and created several chances, but neither side found the breakthrough before the interval.
Morocco returned with greater attacking intent after the break, with Azzedine Ounahi scoring twice to put the Atlas Lions in command. Soufiane Rahimi added a late third goal to complete an emphatic victory and secure Morocco’s place in the last eight.
The result extends Morocco’s impressive World Cup campaign and makes the Atlas Lions the first nation to book a quarter-final berth in the expanded 2026 tournament.
Morocco are one of only two African teams to reach the knockout stage, alongside Egypt. They will face the winner of the Round of 16 match between France and Paraguay in the quarter-finals as they continue their bid for another historic World Cup run.
