A Lagos resident, Osasi, has alleged that he was falsely accused of being a cultist and forced to hand over about ₦700,000 to men who identified themselves as police officers in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
According to a report by The Sun on Monday, July 6, 2026, Osasi shared his account in a post on his X account, stating that the incident occurred on Sunday after he left a friend’s residence, where he had gone to deliver a MacBook charger.
He said he was intercepted while heading home by a group of men who introduced themselves as officers of the Nigeria Police Force. According to him, the men were not dressed in standard police uniforms, making him uncertain whether they were genuine officers or impostors.
Osasi alleged that the men accused him of being involved in cult-related activities before intimidating him into surrendering approximately ₦700,000.
Describing the experience as traumatic, he said the encounter left him shaken. “After leaving his place and heading home, I was stopped by men who identified themselves as Nigerian police officers. They were not dressed in standard police uniforms, which made the situation even more frightening,” he wrote.
