Gospel artist and pastor Dammy Paul has revealed that he practiced Islam for 18 years before converting to Christianity, saying his personal journey is the reason he avoids criticizing other religions.
Speaking in an interview featured by Agbaletu TV on Monday, July 6, 2026, Paul said he was raised in a devout Muslim home, where he observed Islamic prayers and fasting before embracing Christianity after what he described as a personal spiritual experience.
Despite his conversion, Paul said he harbors no hostility toward Islam and believes people of different faiths should be treated with respect. He stressed that his decision to become a Christian pastor reflects a personal conviction rather than a rejection or condemnation of his former religion.
“That is why I don’t criticize other religions. I was a practicing Muslim for 18 years before I became a pastor,” Paul said.
The pastor said his background enables him to share his testimony while encouraging mutual respect among people of different religious beliefs.:::
