Real Madrid CF manager José Mourinho is reportedly seeking another central defender despite the club’s four summer signings, including Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konaté.
According to Madrid Universal, Mourinho believes further defensive reinforcement is needed after the team’s struggles last season. The club reportedly turned to alternative targets after long-term target Nico Schlotterbeck suffered a serious injury during the FIFA World Cup.
Any additional signing is expected to depend on player departures as Madrid balance their squad and finances.
The club’s reported shortlist includes Riccardo Calafiori, Piero Hincapié and Rúben Dias. Dias is said to be the most realistic option due to his relationship with agent Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to both Mourinho and Real Madrid.
However, securing Dias is expected to be difficult, with Manchester City F.C. reportedly reluctant to part with one of the key defenders in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Calafiori’s left-footed profile and Hincapié’s versatility are also viewed as attractive options as Madrid continue their defensive rebuild.
