Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s response to recent mass abductions, contrasting it with Tinubu’s criticism of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ kidnapping.
Speaking in an interview aired by Channels Television, Obi alleged that Jonathan faced calls to resign over the Chibok abduction, while the current administration has witnessed multiple kidnapping incidents without what he described as a comparable level of accountability.
“Jonathan had issue with Chibok girls, only one kidnap, he asked Jonathan to resign. Now we have over dozens of kidnaps, he didn’t even call the chief executive at sub-national level for over seven weeks,” Obi said.
Obi also claimed the President delayed engaging state leaders following recent incidents, arguing that public officials should demonstrate the same standards they previously demanded of others. The Presidency has not publicly responded to Obi’s latest remarks.
