A suspected kidnap kingpin, Abubakar Usman, has claimed that he and two other members of his gang operated in Delta State and reared cattle for an Alhaji based in Abuja.
According to Daily Post, Usman was arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the SafeCity Security Service during a raid on a hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest. The operation reportedly followed intelligence on suspected kidnappers in the area and involved a gun battle before the suspect was apprehended.
Police linked the operation to the July 2, 2026, abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu along Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu said the kidnappers demanded a ₦100 million ransom from the victim’s family.
In a video circulated on social media after his arrest, Usman claimed the gang consisted of three members, said he travelled from Niger State to Delta State, alleged the group received about ₦5 million in ransom from one victim, and stated: “We are three in number. I’m from Niger State. We were using a pump-action gun.”
Authorities have not independently verified all of the suspect’s claims, and investigations are ongoing.
