Vehicular and commercial activities were severely disrupted on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway after officials of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), tank farm operators, the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) temporarily closed sections of the busy corridor during a coordinated enforcement operation.
The exercise targeted indiscriminate parking of tanker trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles, a longstanding cause of congestion around the Apapa port corridor. The operation triggered heavy gridlock, leaving thousands of motorists and commuters stranded for several hours.
Authorities said the enforcement was necessary to improve traffic flow, enhance safety and restore order along the expressway. They urged transport operators to comply with established traffic management procedures to prevent future disruptions.
Motorists and commuters criticised the prolonged delays, calling for better coordination of traffic enforcement to reduce the impact on businesses and daily movement.
