Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has dismissed Peter Obi’s claims that his life is under threat, alleging that the former Anambra State governor made the remarks to attract public sympathy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement posted on his verified X account, the Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy criticised Obi’s allegations, arguing they did not reflect the true situation.
Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, recently claimed his life was in danger and suggested the current administration was responsible for actions he believed threatened his safety. He cited an incident at an airport as an example but did not provide evidence to support the allegation.
Responding, Onanuga rejected the claims, insisting Obi was responsible for the circumstances surrounding his concerns and alleging that his comments were intended to generate undue public sympathy.
