Asiya El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, says doctors at the National Hospital, Abuja, recommended that her husband be admitted for further medical observation after assessing his condition.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV, she said the medical team found that El-Rufai had elevated blood pressure and above-normal blood sugar levels and advised hospital admission. According to her, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director supported the recommendation and instructed that a formal request be prepared.
“The doctors agreed he should be admitted, but after they wrote the letter, his physician was arrested,” Asiya said.
She stated that she personally delivered the hospital’s request to the relevant authorities, who acknowledged receiving it. However, she said officers escorting her husband informed her that the decision on his admission rested with higher authorities.
Asiya further alleged that her husband’s longtime physician, Professor Bello, was arrested shortly after the recommendation was submitted, describing the development as unexpected. She appealed for El-Rufai to receive appropriate medical care while legal proceedings continue, saying medical recommendations should be considered on their professional merits.
