The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has explained his decision to sue his former spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, saying the legal action was aimed at allowing allegations against him to be properly examined.
Speaking during an interview with Chude on June 9, 2026, Obi said the court was the appropriate place to address claims made by Okonkwo regarding alleged undisclosed information about him.
According to Obi, Okonkwo had previously stated that “he has so many hidden things that, if he is provoked or sued, he will bring them out.” Obi said he welcomed the opportunity for any such information to be presented publicly through legal proceedings.
The former Anambra State governor argued that transparency is essential in politics and that Nigerians deserve to understand the background and integrity of anyone seeking public office.
Obi maintained that serious allegations concerning a political figure should be handled through lawful processes rather than public speculation. He expressed confidence that the judiciary remains the right platform for resolving disputes and establishing the truth.
