Explosions were reported in Bandar Abbas, the capital of Iran’s Hormozgan Province, shortly before the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the completion of a new wave of military strikes against Iran. Iranian state-run IRNA said the blasts occurred within an hour but did not immediately disclose the locations, casualties or extent of the damage.
CENTCOM said its forces carried out coordinated precision strikes on dozens of military-related targets across Iran, including air defence systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats. The command said the operation was aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The reported explosions came amid escalating hostilities between Washington and Tehran. On Sunday, Iran said it launched missile and drone attacks against U.S. military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Oman in retaliation for earlier American strikes.
Bandar Abbas, home to key Iranian naval facilities and commercial ports, occupies a strategic position on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Analysts warn that continued exchanges between the two countries could further destabilise the region and disrupt international trade and energy supplies.
