APC founding member Osita Okechukwu says concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket have largely given way to worries about Nigeria’s economic challenges.
According to Daily Post, Okechukwu, speaking on Trust TV’s Sunday Politics, said rising living costs, food prices and financial hardship have shifted public attention from religious and political debates to everyday survival.
“Tinubu has shown in the last three years that he is not making policies based on the Muslim-Muslim ticket or because he wants to favour Muslims,” he said, arguing that the administration’s policies have not reflected the fears expressed when the same-faith ticket was introduced.
Okechukwu urged President Tinubu to assign Vice President Kashim Shettima greater responsibilities, particularly in the areas of the economy and national security, saying the vice president has the experience and capacity to contribute more effectively to addressing the country’s challenges.
He also referenced a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, which noted improvements in Nigeria’s macroeconomic stability but warned that rising inflation and the increasing cost of essential goods could deepen poverty and food insecurity if left unaddressed. Okechukwu said the government should intensify efforts to ease the economic burden on Nigerians.
