U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will intensify military strikes against Iran, saying attacks would begin “tonight” and continue through tomorrow as tensions escalate over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to The Times of Israel, Trump said U.S. forces would “hit them very hard tonight” and “hit them hard tomorrow,” adding that “there’s not a damn thing they can do about it.” He also dismissed Iran’s capabilities, saying the country had little beyond “big mouths” and empty threats.
Trump downplayed the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran last month, describing it as a test agreement with little value because, he said, the U.S. was negotiating with actors who failed to honor its terms. Iranian officials, however, argued that the agreement recognized their authority over the Strait of Hormuz and required vessels transiting the waterway to comply with their regulations.
Asked about supporting anti-government protesters in Iran, Trump said unarmed demonstrators had little chance against security forces using lethal force. He also rejected claims that the agreement had undermined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, insisting the two maintained a strong relationship despite occasional disagreements.
