The Principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, Mrs. Alamu Folawe, has described the emotional and psychological trauma she, fellow teachers, and pupils endured during the 56 days they spent in captivity before being rescued by security forces.
According to a Vanguard report published on Monday, July 13, 2026, Folawe spoke during the official handover of the rescued victims to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde by the Nigerian Army.
She said life in captivity was marked by fear, uncertainty, and constant anxiety, with the victims enduring harsh conditions while hoping they would eventually be rescued.
Folawe also disclosed that the kidnappers killed two captives during the ordeal, alleging that the act was intended to increase pressure on the government. She said the incident left the remaining victims frightened and emotionally devastated.
Despite regaining their freedom, the principal said the experience has left lasting emotional scars on both the teachers and pupils, although she expressed optimism that they would recover with time and the support of their families.
She added that throughout their captivity, they were unaware of the widespread concern over their abduction or the efforts being made to secure their release.
“It was until we got out that we discovered the whole world was on our case. We have scars already, but we believe with time we will heal,” Folawe said.
The victims were rescued after nearly two months in captivity and were later handed over to the Oyo State Government following medical examinations and psychosocial rehabilitation.
