During a political gathering held by the Peoples Redemption Party in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed claimed that the management of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima has led to what he referred to as a negative shift in the global respect for Islam.
He recognized that his statements were hard to articulate, admitting the delicacy surrounding issues of faith and government. He declared that the situation requires frankness, despite the potential dangers of sharing such opinions openly.
Baba-Ahmed highlighted that leadership is vital in influencing both national character and international perspectives. Nonetheless, he contended that Nigeria’s current circumstances do not embody these principles, which in turn affects the worldwide view of Islam.
He added that the current government aligns with what he perceives as a deteriorating reputation of the Islamic community, especially regarding governance results in Nigeria.
By drawing comparisons with other Muslim-majority countries, Baba-Ahmed argued that those nations are frequently seen as exhibiting organization and impartiality. He underscored that effective governance is crucial for maintaining the moral and ethical values typically associated with Islam.
He stated, “In every part of the world, where Muslims have ruled or are ruling, there is peace and calm, along with fairness.”
