A teacher at one of the schools affected by the recent mass abduction in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State says educators remain fearful despite the rescue of the kidnapped pupils and teachers.
Speaking on Channels Television, Oladosun Timothy said the incident, which occurred nearly two months ago, continues to have a psychological impact on teachers, making it difficult to return to normal school routines.
According to Timothy, many teachers accepted postings to the rural community to provide quality government education and previously stayed after school to offer extra lessons and mentor pupils. However, concerns over security have forced many to leave immediately after classes, fearing another attack.
“In fact, at times, we will not want to stay inside the office; we stay outside, under a tree, so that whatever will happen, we will see it with our eyes,” he said.
Timothy said some teachers now avoid their offices, preferring to remain outdoors where they believe they can quickly detect suspicious movements. Although no fresh attacks have been reported since the victims regained their freedom, he said teachers remain anxious about their safety and that of their pupils while carrying out their duties.
