Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, a teacher abducted alongside students during the attack on a school in Oriire, Oyo State, has recounted the circumstances surrounding his release from captivity.
Speaking in an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Zacchaeus said he and another male captive were held blindfolded, handcuffed, and chained throughout their ordeal. He said the kidnappers encouraged them to keep praying after realizing that events were not unfolding as they had expected.
According to Zacchaeus, the atmosphere changed on the final day when the gang leader arrived smiling and laughing before telling the captives to thank God because they were about to be released.
He said the kidnappers then removed their blindfolds, handcuffs, and leg chains before ordering them to leave.
“When they saw that things were not going according to their plans, they told us to be praying. So, we prayed until their commander came on the final day, smiling and laughing. They told us to thank God because we were now free. We were the only two men to survive, and then they told us to open our eyes because we had been bound and blindfolded,” Zacchaeus said.
